History:
Iona Presbyterian Church became a congregation on December 6, 1964. The name IONA was chosen to reflect the spirit of the Iona movement in Scotland, which is concerned with issues that face our world today. The celtic cross is a symbol of our heritage and its’ central place in the sanctuary and outside window, depicts Christ as the center of all we do.
Involvement in the Community:
We support the community of Dartmouth on an ongoing basis through such programs as the East Dartmouth Foodand Clothing Banks as well as F.O.O.D (Feed Others of Dartmouth). We participate in national and international assistance programs such as the Canadian Food Grains Bank and hold special appeals for disaster relief throughout the world.
Learning Opportunities:
Adult Bible studies and discussion groups are held in daytime and evening hours. The studies vary in length, topic and depth – there is something for everyone! In the summer we have a one week Vacation Bible School for children.
Time for Family and Friends:
Join us for coffee, tea or juice following the worship service each Sunday – that is until the summer months are upon us- then it is “Lemonade-on-the-Lawn”. Wednesday mornings from September to June you can join the “Coffee Break” group which meets in the kitchen for a time of fellowship, sewing, crafts and conversation… your children are welcome to come with you!
