In Memorium

While we all are unable to gather together, or restricted in number,  for worship and other activities at our church building, this page has been created to inform those in the congregation of the passing of those associated with Iona Church.   It is a sad page – but also one that allows us to give thanks to God for the lives lived and the influences they had on us.  As you see names appear here, may memories bring you comfort.

Alice Coulter.  We received word of Alice’s death on Feb. 3rd, 2022. A long-time member and participant in the ministry of Iona church , Alice was an elder and active member of our AMS.  She delighted singing in the choir as well as keeping in touch with many through cards and calls.  Please remember Alice’s daughters, Carolyn and Heather, along with their families in your prayers.

Frances Starr.  We were sorry to hear of the death of Frances which occurred on January 9, 2022.  Frances and her son, David, were regular attenders at worship over the last number of years.  Frances was always very appreciative of the welcome and hospitality extended to her by the people of Iona Church.  Please keep David in your prayers.

Ian Ferguson.  Ian passed away on January 3, 2022.  Ian was a long serving member of our congregations, having been an elder and participant in many committees as well as projects.  He headed up many stewardship initiatives and pastoral care projects over the years.  Ian’s service to God was not limited to church activities but was evident in his work with the East Dartmouth Christian Food bank and other community endeavours.  Ian was also a keen member of the Mineville Ukulele Singing Ensemble (MUSE) as well.  Please keep Joan, Glen, Kevin and Kim as well as their families in your prayers.

Doug Tappen.  We were saddened to learn of the death of Doug on October 30, 2021.  Doug was an active member of our choir and the Mission & Service committee of our congregation.  He was also an avid member of MUSE (Mineville Ukulele Singing Ensemble).  Doug’s warm smile and quick wit will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. Please keep Doug’s family in your prayers.

Eugene Harvey.  We were sorry to hear of the death of Eugene on June 17th, 2021, a month shy of his 100th birthday.  Eugene joined the Iona family in 2002 and was a familiar face at many functions as well as a regular attender on Sunday mornings.  Eugene will be remembered by many, especially those who enjoyed his hospitality as well as that of his son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Vicki, at their home after our Christmas carolling tradition.  Please keep Darrell, Vicki and their family in your prayers.

Fred Enman.  Fred was the husband of Charlotte Enman who is well-known and active at Iona Church.  Fred passed away at home on June 6th, 2020.  Please remember Charlotte and her family in your prayers.

Lois Martin.  We are saddened by the death of Lois on March 2, 2021.  Lois was known and loved by so many at Iona Church.  She served her Lord through the Guild, choir, as an elder and regular Tuesday morning Bible study attendee.  Her deep faith and ardent prayer life was an inspiration to those around her.  A private family service was held on March 9th.  We keep Lois’s daughters, Melinda and Denise and their families in our prayers.

Joan MacDonald.  Joan passed away October 30, 2020.  Joan was an elder at Iona and served on various committees including being our personnel liaison.  Joan was a representative elder to the Halifax-Lunenburg presbytery as well.  She is missed by many.  A graveside service was held. We keep her family, Robin, Jennifer (Joe) and grandchildren Ripley and Jasper in our prayers.

Allistar (Al) Haggart.  Al died on June 18th, 2020 at Oakwood Terrace.  Al served as an elder at Iona and on various committees.  He always had a bright smile whenever you saw him.  A private-family graveside service has been held. A memorial service at Iona will be held at a later date.  Please keep Al’s daughters, Elizabeth and Melanie. in your prayers.

Gerry Feenstra.  Gerry passed away during the evening of May 3rd, 2020, at home.  An avid traveller and member of various groups at Iona, Gerry will be missed.  Arrangements will be made at a later date.  Please remember Jur, Andrew, Jennifer, Maureen, Monique and their families in your prayers during this difficult time.

Doris Gammie.  On Monday, April 20th, 2020, Doris passed away at Oceanview Manor.  Many of you would remember Doris from years gone by.  A delightful woman who was a regular attender at Sunday services and activities a number of years ago.  Her obituary was in the Chronicle Herald on April 23rd and can be found on line.  Please remember Doris’ family in your prayers.

Jane Murphy.  On Friday, April 17th 2020, Jane passed away peacefully in her sleep.  Her full obituary can be found in today’s Chronicle Herald and on Atlantic Funeral Homes (Dartmouth) remembrance page.  Please keep Rod, Joanne and their families, as well as Janes’ sister Bonnie and brother Alan in your prayers.

Audrey Beaver.  Audrey passed away on April 8th, 2020.  Her obituary is in the Chronicle Herald, April 10th.  Audrey and her late husband Lindsay (died Dec. 17, 2019) had been living in Oceanview Manor. Audrey was 97 years old. Please keep Audrey’s family in your prayers.

Vickie Nicoll.   Last year Vicki was diagnosed with cancer.  It was the same type of which her mom, Lynn, died 11 years ago.  Vicki passed away on March 26th, 2020, in Calgary, She had turned 31 in January. There has been no obituary published that I have seen.  Vicki recently married Jason Yang.  We will remember Vickie’s laughter, compassion and smile.  Please keep Jason and his family in your prayers.
