The history of our church began in 1825. Here are some highlights.
1825: Land was donated near the Aylmer Road and Vanier Road for construction of a church and manse for the Aylmer Presbyterian Church.
1840: The church had become too small for the congregation, and Mr. Charles Symmes donated land for construction of a church at the present location. The church was not built until 1860.
1875: The congregation of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church joined the newly formed Presbyterian Church of Canada, and the Ottawa Presbytery. The church called its first permanent minister.
1921: A great fire consumed several properties in the heart of Aylmer, including St. Andrew’s church.
1923-1925: A new church was built on the site. To raise money for the bricks, paper “bricks” in packages of 10 were sold at $0.25 per brick.
1935-1983: Hull and Aylmer became a two-point charge.
1995: A plaque recognizing St. Andrew’s as an historical site was donated by the City of Aylmer, and installed on the front of the church.
