Building community through faith: Growing faith in community
A Brief History
There has been a Presbyterian presence in St Marys since 1848. That presence has taken several forms and occupied several different buildings. The congregation who meet today as St Marys Presbyterian Church reflect the depth and breadth of that long, storied history. Buildings have been raised – and ruined by fire; shared and sold. Our current building has known its share of hardship and hurt, but the fierce faithfulness that first established a congregation in this lovely town continues to persevere.
We have been nurtured by clergy, serenaded by our choirs, fed by our ladies’ groups (and occasionally by our men too) and we have worshipped through bad and good – war and peace – through every season, and circumstance.
We are glad to carry Christ’s message to the community even now – 177 years later. The world has changed, and we have too, but our desire to share the Good News has never wavered.
Long may it be so!
