Community in Communion

Communion exemplifies the importance of being in community. In this act we are joining together physically in the same place, spiritually in Jesus’ presence, and even emotionally when we start to recognize the deep love and grace that we are joining together in this act of Communion. It is a coming together because of God bringing us together. It is our response to God’s gift. This gift brought Jesus and the disciples together. This gift brought the Israelite community together Egypt, as they were living in the promise of God.

Both instances is a coming together in the promise of God for His people. It isn’t just a ritual that we practise, it is an entering into the promise of God with brothers and sisters, friends, family, and even strangers, to be part of God’s promise of grace, love, and life. This is not just about ourselves individually, it is about God’s action and promise for and in community.
