Who makes the rules?

Let’s be honest, at one point in time or another, we all wish we got to make the rules that governs everybody, that is until we realize one of two things, we can’t live up to our own rules or we realize the sheer weight of the responsibility that means.

Another problem we have when we decide that people have the ultimate say in making the rules, people keep changing and so do the rules. Even if we try to work on consensus, do we go with the majority few or the minority view? Do we have an unbiased view or even a full enough view of the world to make just rules.l? Even for people who believe that there are certain rules that are common in every culture, when we look closely, we find that this not totally true.

God has given us rules to help us live in relationship with Himself and with each other.  He is also willing to follow those rules and live within them. We see this in Jesus, who laid down His life to bring redemption for each of us. Such love that has overcome the sin, hurt, and destruction that we have allowed to come in this world, sometimes from our own lives. We may not always like God or God’s rules, but even within those rules comes hope, healing and new live.
