Mitch Coggin offering the message. Knox will host Good Friday Worship at 10:00am on Friday 15 April with the Rev. Cathy Victor offering the message. Easter Sunday Communion will be hosted by St. Andrew’s at 10:30am on Sunday 17 April with the Rev. Laura Kavanagh offering the message. “We often act as if faith is only about the mind. But what about our bodies? What does our physical being have to do with our spiritual life? When the Bible exhorts us to walk in the light, or walk by faith, or walk in truth, it means these things literally as much as figuratively. The Christian faith always involves walking out, as again and again we find the holy in the ordinary.”
The book can be purchased from Indigo (online), Amazon, Apple Books, and Audible. To borrow a copy (limited number available) or for more information please email Sabine Teetzel [email protected]. For the first week, please read to the end of Mile 1 (page 67).
Mission Moment – April 10, 2022
Penjani Sichinga holds a special place in his heart for the David Gordon Memorial Hospital (DGMH) in northern Malawi, where he has worked since 2004, though not everyone shares this passion. DGMH is a rural mission that serves a population of 120,000; and due to its remote location, poor accommodation and few incentives, the hospital sees a high staff turnover rate, especially among doctors. Penjani received encouragement and support from the Synod of Livingstonia Health Department to pursue medical studies to become a certified doctor. He finished his studies in 2021, and thanks to support from Presbyterians Sharing, is now working on completing an internship at the Livingstonia University Teaching Hospital in Zambia. After Penjani completes his final medical training requirement, he will return to work at DGMH—but this time as a fully certified doctor!

Thursday, April 14 (Maundy Thursday) We pray that God blesses the church with a renewed and greater awareness of Christ’s commandment to love one another as he loved us.
Friday, April 15 (Good Friday) We pray for the church and that God will keep it faithful in worship, humble in service, gracious in spirit, grounded in truth and persistent in proclaiming the good news of the gospel.
Saturday, April 16 (Holy Saturday) On this day, Jesus rests in the grave. We pray for trust in the resurrection and the power of new life.
This is a summary of our journey to the cross and resurrection during Holy Week offered by The Rev. Mitch Coggin…
The drama of Holy Week is not a dramatic play performed in front of an audience. It is, however, a life and death story ripe with human and divine intervention. It is a story of failure, sacrifice and love to the ultimate degree. A 3-act play is one way to understand the depth of pain, sorrow, death, and the miracle of resurrection – physically and spiritually.
In a three act play the purpose of first act is to establish the main characters, their relationships, and the world they live in. Later in the first act, a dynamic incident occurs, that confronts the main characters attempts to deal with this incident which ensures that life will never be the same again and raises a dramatic question that will be answered in the climax.
On Maundy Thursday, Judas and Peter make themselves known as villain and wanna-be hero. Jesus raises the stakes for “disciple” by breaking bread and sharing wine while comparing it to his life and blood. He then dons a towel and washes the disciples’ feet much to the confusion of disciples present and future. Experience Act 1 of the Holy Week drama life at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2964 Tillicum Rd, on Thursday, April 14 at 7:00 PM. Masks encouraged until seated.
The second act depicts the characters attempts to resolve the problem, only to find themselves in ever worsening situations. They must not only learn new skills but arrive at a higher sense of awareness of who they are and what they are capable of, in order to deal with their predicament, which in turn changes who they are. On Good Friday, Judas betrays Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Peter denies that he ever knew Jesus. Jesus is arrested, convicted, and sentenced to death without a trial. Jesus is hung on a cross between two common criminals. Jesus dies an agonizing death. Act 2 of this story will be a part of worship at Knox Presbyterian Church on Friday, April 15 at 10:00 AM at 2964 Richmond Rd. Masks encouraged until seated.
The third act features the resolution of the story. The climax is the scene in which the main tensions of the story are brought to their most intense point leaving the characters with a new sense of who they really are. Easter may be the only act that we know by heart as it is usually the high point of the church year. We remember our experience on Easter morning and hearing the joyful refrain, “He is not here. He is risen, indeed.” Easter morning Knox and St. Andrews Presbyterian Churches will gather for Easter worship at 10:30 AM at St. Andrew’s 924 Douglas St. Please have ID and your vaccine passports in addition to your masks – just in case.
Holy Week presents us with an opportunity to experience each part of this story. How can we truly know the full impact of Easter without truly immersing ourselves in each segment? Please mark your calendars and attend every service offered this year.
Continued Lenten blessings as we pray for peace.
