Sunday, August 30, 2026 – Mission Moment

With support from Presbyterians Sharing, Central Presbyterian Church in Hamilton, Ontario, continues its strong tradition of community outreach and vibrant music ministry. Situated in an urban neighbourhood with affordable housing projects, lower-income families, seniors, and many children, the church recognizes that ticketed events are often financially inaccessible. In response, Central offers high-quality, inclusive musical programming that is open to all, welcoming neighbours regardless of circumstance. In partnership with other downtown churches, the congregation also leads Hamilton Out of the Cold, providing a warm, welcoming space, meaningful connection, and hot meals for individuals experiencing hunger, isolation, and hardship in the community.

Prayer Partnership

Thursday, August 27 We pray for the courage to seek justice where it is denied.

Friday, August 28 We pray for staff and campers at Cairn Family of Camps in Baysville, ON, as they learn and grow together in faith in a Christian camping community.

Saturday, August 29 We pray for those who visit the Presbyterian Church Heritage Centre in Carlisle, ON. May they be encouraged and inspired by their encounter with the rich legacy of faith present within The Presbyterian Church in Canada.

Sunday, August 30 We pray for ministers and church workers who are returning from much-needed vacations. May they be re-energized for Christ’s service.

Monday, August 31 (International Day for People of African Descent) We honour and give thanks for the gifts and contributions of people of African descent in our church and across Canada.

Tuesday, September 1  We pray for presbyteries as they gather after a summer respite to continue caring for congregations and ministers and for their clerks and moderators as they prepare to offer leadership.

Wednesday, September 2 We pray that God will sustain and inspire Christian educators as they accompany and nurture God’s beloved children in a complex world.

Thursday, September 3 We pray for Palestinian Christians who worship and pray in the context of apartheid and genocide.

Friday, September 4 We pray for groups and members of the Women’s Missionary Society as they continue to serve the mission of the Church.

Saturday, September 5 We pray for God’s church, that it may be wise, brave and diligent in seeking out those gifted to serve and provide an outward call through affirmation.

SHELBOURNE COMMUNITY KITCHEN – upcoming events

Help Local Kids Start the School Year Strong

Every donation helps us create opportunities for kids and families to cook, grow, share and connect, and ensures that food insecurity doesn’t have to stand in the way of children learning, growing and thriving.

How You Can Help

There are many impactful ways that you can show your support for our Back-to-School Stock Up campaign.

Fundraising BBQ & Fill the Van Food Drive

Join us on Saturday, August 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Thrifty Foods Tuscany Village parking lot.

For a suggested $5 donation, enjoy an all-beef sausage on a freshly baked bun and your choice of drink. Gluten-free and vegetarian options will also be available. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to The Kitchen!

During the BBQ, you can also help us Fill the Thrifty Foods Van with non-perishable food donations that will help to keep our Pantry shelves stocked this fall. Our most-needed items right now are: Juice boxes • Granola bars • Fruit cups • Canned tuna and fish • Canned plain beans • Canned tomatoes • Toilet paper

Back-to-School Benny Feature

Through now until September 7, $2 from the Back-to-School Eggs Benny at The Village Restaurant, 4087 Shelbourne Street, will be donated to The Kitchen’s campaign.

This delicious local collaboration features back bacon, Sun Wing tomatoes and basil-arugula pesto on crispy latkes, topped with two poached eggs, hollandaise and candied jalapeños, served with roast potatoes and fresh fruit.

And, as always, donations can be made directly to The Kitchen online through our Back-to-School Stock-Up Campaign:

https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/shelbourne_community_kitchen/campaign/back-to-school-stock-up-2026–1/

Together, we can help make the transition back to school a little easier for local families, and make sure more children have the healthy food, essential supplies and caring community support they need to learn, grow and thrive.

Featured in the September 12 Victoria Urban Food Garden Tour: The Kitchen’s Very Own Cedar Hill Garden

If you love gardening or have been meaning to visit The Kitchen’s Cedar Hill Garden, this is a great opportunity to spend a day exploring beautiful food gardens across Greater Victoria while supporting local food security at the same time!

The Victoria Urban Food Garden Tour team has chosen Shelbourne Community Kitchen as its charity beneficiary for 2026, with a goal of raising $20,000 to support our work helping local people access healthy food. We’re so grateful to be part of this wonderful community fundraiser.

Even better, our Cedar Hill Garden will be one of the featured stops on this year’s tour!

Located at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Cedar Hill Garden is one of the places where our volunteers come together to grow fresh, nutritious food for our Pantry Program. It’s a special space that many of our community members may not have had a chance to visit yet.

The Victoria Urban Food Garden Tour is a self-guided tour featuring a variety of urban food gardens around the city. You’ll find plenty of inspiration for growing food, supporting pollinators, composting, collecting rainwater and making the most of whatever growing space you have.

So grab a gardening-loving friend and make a day of it! Visit the Cedar Hill garden, explore some other beautiful gardens, get inspired, and support The Kitchen along the way.
