Sunday, September 6, 2026 – Mission Moment

Children living at Samuel House as well as some disadvantaged local children in Micske, Romania, play, study and enjoy nutritious meals together in a loving family-like Christian environment. They celebrate their birthdays and Christian holidays and in the summer attend summer camp. Without state support, Samuel House depends on domestic and international donations and this is where your gifts to Presbyterians Sharing come in. Csilla Bertalan, Director of Samuel House, writes, “Thank you for holding the children in our care in your prayers. And thank you for sharing your resources with us so that they may live their lives in fullness.”

Prayer Partnership

Thursday, September 3 We pray for Palestinian Christians who worship and pray in the context of apartheid and genocide.

Friday, September 4 We pray for groups and members of the Women’s Missionary Society as they continue to serve the mission of the Church.

Saturday, September 5 We pray for God’s church, that it may be wise, brave and diligent in seeking out those gifted to serve and provide an outward call through affirmation.

Sunday, September 6 We pray for Samuel House in Micske, Romania, a safe place where disadvantaged children come to play, study, eat nutritious meals and receive Christian care.

Monday, September 7 We pray that God will help us grapple faithfully with questions of suffering, autonomy, and the sanctity of life, without losing sight of our call to accompany one another in love.

Tuesday, September 8 (World Literacy Day) We give thanks that girls in Sindh province, Pakistan, are able to go to school, stay in class, learn and build brighter futures through education, with the help of daily meals provided at school through a PWS&D-supported program.

Wednesday, September 9 We pray for the Change Leadership Team as it considers possibilities for revitalizing the structures of the denomination to better enable vibrant and Christ-led mission.

Thursday, September 10 We give thanks for the wisdom of Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers who walk with and support the ministries of the National Indigenous Ministries Council, and the people they serve.

Friday, September 11 We give thanks to God for those whose friendship, companionship and care are signs of God’s never-failing love in times of sorrow.

Saturday, September 12 We pray for Knox College students, both new and returning, as they embark on the Fall 2026 semester. May they find wisdom in their studies, friendship in their communities, and may they be shaped for lives of purpose and service.

SHELBOURNE COMMUNITY KITCHEN – Help Local Kids Start the School Year Strong

Every donation helps us create opportunities for kids and families to cook, grow, share and connect, and ensures that food insecurity doesn’t have to stand in the way of children learning, growing and thriving.

How You Can Help – There a few impactful ways that you can show your support for our Back-to-School Stock Up campaign.

Donations can be made directly to The Kitchen online through our Back-to-School Stock-Up Campaign:

https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/shelbourne_community_kitchen/campaign/back-to-school-stock-up-2026–1/

Together, we can help make the transition back to school a little easier for local families, and make sure more children have the healthy food, essential supplies and caring community support they need to learn, grow and thrive.

Back-to-School Benny Feature

Through now until September 7, $2 from the Back-to-School Eggs Benny at The Village Restaurant, 4087 Shelbourne Street, will be donated to The Kitchen’s campaign.

Featured in the September 12 Victoria Urban Food Garden Tour: The Kitchen’s Very Own Cedar Hill Garden

If you love gardening or have been meaning to visit The Kitchen’s Cedar Hill Garden, this is a great opportunity to spend a day exploring beautiful food gardens across Greater Victoria while supporting local food security at the same time!

The Victoria Urban Food Garden Tour team has chosen Shelbourne Community Kitchen as its charity beneficiary for 2026, with a goal of raising $20,000 to support our work helping local people access healthy food. We’re so grateful to be part of this wonderful community fundraiser.

Even better, our Cedar Hill Garden will be one of the featured stops on this year’s tour!

Located at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Cedar Hill Garden is one of the places where our volunteers come together to grow fresh, nutritious food for our Pantry Program. It’s a special space that many of our community members may not have had a chance to visit yet.

The Victoria Urban Food Garden Tour is a self-guided tour featuring a variety of urban food gardens around the city. You’ll find plenty of inspiration for growing food, supporting pollinators, composting, collecting rainwater and making the most of whatever growing space you have.

So grab a gardening-loving friend and make a day of it! Visit the Cedar Hill garden, explore some other beautiful gardens, get inspired, and support The Kitchen along the way.
