New Members

On Sunday, August 30 we are excited to receive several new members into our congregation.  You’ll notice they are all familiar faces, folks who are already part of our church family…so you may wonder what is changing?  What does it mean to be a member of this congregation?

Becoming a member is joyful occasion!  A person affirms their baptism by professing faith in the Trinity.  Through vows, members renounce sin and turn to Jesus Christ, and, in dependence upon the Holy Spirit, express a desire to mature as Christians in the church, seek the guidance of Christ in the Word of God, celebrate Christ’s death and life in the Sacrament of Holy Communion and engage in Christ’s mission to the world.

Membership is a sign of God’s profound grace that reaches out and invites us to be part of his Church.  Membership is also a public demonstration of substantial commitment to the Church of Jesus Christ and to this congregation.

Don Muir, retired Associate Secretary of the General Assembly Office, put it this way:  “Sometimes being a member is compared to marriage.  You can live with someone and enjoy many of the same benefits of marriage, but when two people marry, they enter into an even deeper bond of commitment to each other before God.”

If you have any questions about membership, or are interested in becoming a member of St. David’s yourself, please speak with your Elder or Rev. Paul.
