History of Our Congregation

St. David’s began in 1951 as a Church School mission, meeting in Kitchener Park schoolhouse at the corner of Commonwealth and Eglinton Avenues.  Alongside these classes, a small, faithful congregation began to grow, and on April 25, 1954 a new congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Canada was officially formed.  That modest beginning saw fifteen communicant members on the roll.

Our numbers steadily increased and in 1955 we obtained a lot on Danforth Road in hopes of one day constructing our own church building.  As plans began to take shape, worship continued in a portable classroom and later the auditorium of Knob Hill Public School.  At this time our congregation officially became known as St. David’s Presbyterian Church.

In 1957 the first independent Session was formed and construction began at our current location, 1300 Danforth Road.  By January 1958, building was complete, and continued outreach had grown our membership to 257!

By the 1970s a vision had developed to use the south side of our property to build much-needed seniors’ housing.  A sod turning took place in 1977, and May 1979 saw the grand opening of St. David’s Village Seniors’ Apartments.  https://www.stdavidsvillage.com/

Over the years we have been blessed by the ministry and service of many different ministers, student ministers, diaconal ministers, interim moderators, and a multitude of faithful members and adherents.  We have enjoyed worship, study, fellowship and service, and have become more than just a church—we are a family.  We are made up of many “nations, tribes, peoples and languages,” inspired and hopeful for what the Lord can do in and through us both now and in the years ahead.  We would love for you to come and be a part of our story, and part of our family!
