Weddings

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Are you interested in marrying at St. James or seeking the services of clergy to officiate at your wedding?

A Sacred and Joyful Commitment

At St. James Presbyterian Church, we celebrate marriage as a sacred covenant—a deep promise of love, faithfulness, and mutual care between two persons made before God and community. Whether you’re planning a joyful sanctuary celebration, a quiet garden ceremony, or something simple and sacred with close friends and family, we’re honoured to walk with you on this journey.

Marriage is more than a single day—it’s a lifelong relationship grounded in trust, grace, and shared purpose. We are here to support you as you begin this chapter together, no matter where you are on your spiritual path.

In our faith we believe that marriage is a sacred covenant between two people, joined together by God. While the covenant made between a couple in marriage is private, it is also a public covenant made before God and witnesses.  It is a covenant made for the good of the natural and social order. It is a relationship rooted in faithfulness.  In the marriage service, we are reminded of the faithful God who entered into covenant with a beloved people. As we celebrate, we are given a glimpse of the kingdom of God.

In our denomination, the decision to hold special services in our church building, such as weddings, rests with the session.  Session’s permission is not required should the minister conduct a wedding outside the church building.

St. James Presbyterian Church provides pastoral care to couples not only as they prepare to wed, but also to help couples maintain a strong and healthy marriage in all its joys and challenges. In preparation for marriage, and in order to plan the service, couples must be willing to meet to meet with the minister for the appropriate marriage prep and  support.

Should you wish to talk to Rev. Wendy about getting married at St. James or if you would like her to officiate at your wedding elsewhere, please contact her (506) 450-4031 or [email protected].
