Terms of Reference

The Capital will be held in perpetuity and the income used to support the following purposes:
- Grants towards the support of student ministries in the Synod of Saskatchewan, including but not limited to summer student ministries. Students participating in these ministries will normally be pre-theological or theological students of colleges of The Presbyterian Church in Canada, and will be currently certified by their presbytery.
- Grants towards the support of leadership training for adults and youth under the direction of the Synod of Saskatchewan. This may be carried out through conferences, events, or programs.
- Grants towards the support of leadership training under the direction of Camp Christopher. This may be carried out through staff training and/or the ongoing training and mentorship of cabin leaders throughout the summer at Camp.
- Grants for library books and library upkeep for Camp Christopher. Up to $400 may be granted each year.
- Grants to support the theological education of certified students from Saskatchewan who are attending a college of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. When Synod offers financial support for a theological student, it is normally for up to three years. The three bursary funds listed below will normally be used as the first source for grants for theological students.

Prioritizing the Grants:
When requests exceed the funds available, the Mission Committee will consider applications for funding and ascertain how well they meet the terms of reference and the need. The Mission Committee will then make a recommendation to Synod for approval. |
The Three Bursary Funds:The Clerk of Synod will remind the presbyteries annually about the availability of funds from the Halliday, How and Wells Bursaries, so that those within the bounds who fit the qualifications may apply.
Dr. Halliday Trust Fund – Interest to be used for assistance to student ministers.
Wm. How Student Assistance Trust Fund – Interest to be used for assistance to attend seminaries in eastern Canada.
W.C. Wells Estate Trust Fund – Interest to be used for bursaries to student ministers from Saskatchewan. |
