First Presbyterian Church’s minister, Rev. Amanda Currie, hosts a weekly Bible study by Zoom on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 1:30.
This year, during Advent, the Advent Study will be held during the regular Bible study time Nov. 26 – Dec. 17.
For this year’s Advent Bible Study, we will be using a resource called “The Text Behind the Tunes” which was prepared by the Rev. Dr. Patricia Dutcher-Walls, the 149th Moderator of the General Assembly and former Professor of Hebrew Bible at the Vancouver School of Theology.
We will be exploring the Old Testament texts that underlie the many beautiful hymns that the church sings during the season of Advent. Our sessions will include reading the biblical texts, learning about their historical context, reflecting on them together, and singing some of the Advent hymns that were inspired by them.
