Knox Acton has a special place in its heart for Winnipeg Inner City Missions.
Former executive director, the Rev. Dr. Margaret Mullin was guest speaker at Knox for a 2-day event in Sept. 2017.
On the Saturday, she gave a free public talk drawing mainly from her unique perspective as a Metis person, whose mom was taken during the ’60s scoop.
On the Sunday she led worship. She continues to be an inspiration to all who encounter her.

“Be the conscience of the church” – Healing & Reconciliation with the Rev. Margaret Mullin, September 2017
Likely all will agree that one of the more memorable events this fall was our weekend with guest speaker the Rev. Dr. Margaret Mullin, Executive Director of Winnipeg Inner City Missions. She will in fact be resigning from full administrative directorship at the end of February 2018, and asks for prayer support for a smooth transition. She will retain her pastoral role.
The chair of the CE committee, Marjorie Britton, was a prime force on this initiative – bringing in a guest speaker was something she had wanted to do for some time. This project was also made much more possible by the Presbyterian Church in Canada’s deputation program.
On Sun. Sept. 24, Rev. Margaret took the service. One thing that stood out was her wonderful patient way with the children. She showed them items from her bundle, including a very cool turtle shell rattle. She seemed to have all the time in the world for them to explore and show their interest.
The day before, she gave a public talk on the meaning of Truth and Reconciliation with Canada’s indigenous people, using examples from her own personal story to bring particular depth to the issue. We were blessed to have Eric Walton donate his time and talents, making the event even more special.
Rev. Margaret is gifted speaker, essentially a national treasure in many respects. In the spirit of Advent, and the spark of hope rekindled by the arrival of a tiny babe in a dark time, we give over the final words of this report to Rev. Margaret. She concluded her public talk with a list of “Things You Can Do” to participate in healing and reconciliation:
Things You Can Do

• Don’t be afraid – learn how the gospel applies to the poerest of the poor in our country – our indigenous people

• Call the treaty commission office of your province – get it and read it
• Demonstrate pure acceptance of indigenous people
• the Christian church needs to stop saying the Christian way is the only way
