Father's Day Devotional: A Father's Kindness
Scripture - Passage - Psalm 103
Good News Bible
Verse - Psalm 103:13
As a father is kind to his children, so the Lord is kind to those who honour Him.
A Father's Kindness
A father who usually cut the grass was not up to it for this particular cutting and wanted his teen-age son to do it but did not want to hear the often teenage groaning response, "Do I have to?" So he told his son that he could have the car that night but there was only one slight problem; he had lost the keys somewhere in the grass. With this, the son said "No problem dad, I'll cut the grass." And that's just what he did. The keys were found somewhat later by dad who had 'accidentally' misplaced them as he told his son. The goal was achieved - dad got the teen-age son to cut the grass without any hassle and the jury is still out on whether the son got the car that night.
The writer David of Psalm 103 begins the Psalm by praising God for the personal benefits he has received from God: he knows of God's forgiveness in his life and the blessing of God's mercy and love and deep in his soul he knows the kindness of God. Even though God knows how fragile human life is as seen in verses 14-16, God is a kind God to those who honour Him in their lives. The writer compares God's kindness to those who honour Him as to the kindness of a father for his children.
Of course this kindness of God that is compared to a father's kindness, is steeped in love and compassion in which a father seeks the best for his children as God seeks the best for those who honour Him.
One way a father can show kindness to his children whatever age they may be , and it is an important way, is to spend TIME with them, doing things together, giving his whole self to his children during this time, and in doing so letting them know that they are precious and valued by dad.
It is like -
The men who ride in rodeos
Need to be tough of course -
But they should have a two -year-old
And spend time as a horse.

SPECIAL PRAYER: I am asking that those of the congregation and those who receive this mailing that we would join in a moment of prayer for the family that was involved in this devastating accident in Brampton where the mother and her three daughters were killed.
I am suggesting that we do this together as a congregation when WE are together with OUR families either virtually or with the social distancing on this Sunday, Father's Day together at 2:00 p.m. or if this does not work out for your family, at a time on that day when your family is together. To help guide the prayer could we remember the husband and father that he be given strength of body and spirit, for the mother and three girls that God has opened His loving arms and received their lives together with Him in Heaven where pain and suffering have come to an end and they are in the fullness of God's love and life, and that we humbly give gratitude to God for the members of our families commending each and every one into God's care and guidance in their lives. I suggest the prayer be ended with all the members joining in together for our Lord's prayer which He offered to God the Father. If there is any change in conditions, please pray the appropriate prayer.
For a blessed father's/family day,
Rev. Wayne
