TRINITY SUNDAY: The Trinity in A-c-t-I-o-n.
Scripture - Matthew 28:16-20
Verse Matthew 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."
.
The Trinity in A-c-t-I-o-n.
The Risen Jesus took His disciples ( means learners and followers) with Him to the Mount of Olives and just before He ascended to Heaven before their very eyes, His last words to them were the words of the above verse.
And with these words we see God as the Triune God (tri-unity), the ONE God who reveals of Himself in THREE different forms - as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, yet ever remaining ONE God.
Believers and skeptics alike ask how can this be so, the one in three and yet remain the three in one. Well let's get this issue cleared up with a simple analogy and proceed to more substantive matters related to the Trinity.
My name is Wayne. I am a husband, a father and a minister. The way I relate to my wife, my children and the congregation is in quite a different manner of one to the others and I still remain one person, Wayne!
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, yet ever ONE God, period!
Now to the matter at hand regarding the triune God, for the Trinity is not an abstract doctrine but a living reality that is action oriented.
Notice the action verbs related to the Trinity as Jesus speaks His final words to the disciples - GO and MAKE disciples of all nations (and with this the disciples now become the Apostles which means 'sent') - the triune God is not a stagnant dormant God!
The action of the triune God is always a 'giving' action as Father, Son and Holy Spirit to His people and thus the very final words of Jesus before His ascension reflect this giving action (Matthew 28:20b) - "and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen! (By the way "Amen" means :"So Be It!") - thus no dilly, dallying around with Jesus' final words!
GOD THE FATHER ever coming in His love for us as the creator and re-creator of ALL life. Our lives are not a random haphazard chance, but it is the Father who created you, who formed you from the womb and will help you.(Isaiah 44:2). Do you know of the Father's re-creating life and help for you even in the midst of these COVID-19 days?
GOD THE SON always giving of Himself as our Redeemer - saving us from sin and ourselves by His action on the Cross. Even now pleading our cause to the Father at His right hand that we be kept as His sheep within the fold. Do you accept that you are a new person(creation) by the redeeming action of Jesus on the cross for you?
GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT who as we saw last Pentecost Sunday is the One who empowers and enables us through the presence of the Father and the Son with us always in the NOW of our lives and is as close to us as the air we breathe. Is the Spirit's presence and power real to you right now?
Indeed, The Triune God in A-c-t-I-o-n in our lives!
In the Name and Action of The Triune God,
