Love Matters Most (40 Days of Love – Part 1)

Series:
Passage: Deuteronomy 6:1-9; Matthew 22:36-39; 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

Jesus commanded his followers to love God and love their neighbor as themselves, which are the most important things in life. We will stand before God one day, and he will ask us if we learned to love him and others. Life is about learning to love, and this morning we will discuss the three laws of love.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. The second most important is similar: Love your neighbor as much as you love yourself” (Matthew 23:37-39).

Law number one: The best use of life is love.

According to God, love is the most important thing in life for four reasons.

Firstly, it validates our faith: “If we say we love God, but we hate other, we’re liars. For we cannot love God, whom we have not seen, if we do not love others, whom we have seen” (1 John 4:20).

Secondly, it integrates our life: “Love is more important than anything else. It is what ties everything else together” (Colossians 3:14).

Thirdly, it compensates for our sin: “Most important of all continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8).

And fourthly, it reverberates forever: “These three things continue forever: faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love” (1 Corinthians 13:13).

Love is the only thing that will last and be rewarded by God in eternity. Our relationships are our life, and we are here to learn to love.

Law number two: The best expression of love is time.

“We must show love through actions. We must show love through actions. Actions that are sincere, not through empty words” (1 John 3:18).

The best way to express love is through giving someone our time. When we give our time, we show that someone is valuable and important to us. It’s the most desired gift of love, even more than diamonds, chocolate, or flowers. Our time is precious because we can never get it back. The essence of true relationships is how much we give of ourselves to that person.

“The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love” (Galatians 5:6).

How do we find more time for the people we love in our life? We need to prioritize the people we love in our life and fit the rest into our schedule. To find more time for the people we love, we need to reduce our screen time. Love means giving up our agenda for the other person’s agenda, giving up our time for their time, and making sacrifices for them.

“No matter what I say or what I do or what I believe I’m bankrupt without love” (1 Corinthians 13:3).

“Live a life filled with love for others following the example of Christ, who loved you and gave himself as a sacrifice to take away your sins” (Ephesians 5:2).

We must practice what we think is most important in our lives.

Law number three: The best time to love is now.

“Whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone” (Galatians 6:10).

Love now. Don’t wait. Opportunities for showing love may not always be available, so take advantage of them whenever possible.

“Whenever you possibly can, do good to those who need it. Never tell your neighbor to wait until tomorrow if you can help them now” (Proverbs 3:27-28).

The Bible urges us to do good whenever we can and not to postpone acts of kindness. Let’s prioritize love above everything else, as we never know how much time we have.

In the next six Sundays, we’ll go through 40 Days of Love to become more loving. I want us to love God and people more and be remembered as godly people.

Let’s spend time with our family members every day, listen and show love.
