Let us pray
Heavenly God, You have come to us in and through Jesus the Christ. As we come to this Maundy Thursday, we are reminded of Jesus gathering His disciples together to celebrate the Passover, an irony that they would come together to celebrate God’s deliverance from slavery on the night that Jesus was delivered into the hands of those who wanted Him dead.
Today is a day that is mixed with serene joy and fear filled emptiness. A day of reflection with loved ones recognizing God’s presence and gifts. But also, a day where our fears and weaknesses are revealed before our very eyes. We see our limitations and wonder why You have made them so clear for us to see. We have hidden behind Your blessings and presence but now find ourselves naked for all to see.
Like the disciples so long ago, we realize how much we truly need You and have not fully appreciated all that You have done for us or how much You have meant to us. Help us to not lose heart in these difficult days but to continue to trust in Your leading and saving Grace. Help us to stay with You even when our hearts are heavy and our minds are unsure.
We pray all of this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
