Food for your body and your soul

In Luke 24:13-49, we have two of Jesus’s disciples walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus. Almost out of nowhere a stranger appears and they start talking.  A question is asked, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem that does not know the things that have taken place in these days?” It was asked by the disciples to the stranger who we are told is Jesus. However, it is a question that Jesus could have asked to the disciples. They seemed unaware of what was happening themselves. Jesus then goes on to explain the scriptures to the disciples. As Jesus is feeding their souls their hearts are crying out with the awesome truth that they were confronted with. But it wasn’t until Jesus broke bread that they could truly see.

More often than not, it is when both our body and our soul are nourished that we can trust in Jesus. Throughout Jesus ministry we see the need fore both. Some people have into the hurting souls, while the breaking of bread speaks into the hunger in the body but also the need for community.

When we take time to be with Jesus, we will find that He feeds both our bodies and our souls with the nourishment that we truly need, not always what we expect or thought we wanted, but what we need.
