Blessings in waiting
Many of us today do not like waiting. We have to wait in lines with other people, we have to wait for fast food, we have to wait to see a doctor, we have to wait for our significant other, we have to wait for many different things. Sometimes we see waiting as an inconvenience, sometimes as an annoyance, and sometimes it is worth while to wait.
We don’t hear whether the disciples were happy or upset that they had to wait for the Holy Spirit, but they waited. They waited because they trusted Jesus. When we trust the one who says we should or have to wait, it helps a little. But we still have to deal with our impatience, which may be connected to our sinful self.
When we have to wait, it can actually be an invitation to trust Jesus more. It is an invitation to wait with Jesus. Maybe not in person but in the act of waiting we can open up to Jesus and allow Him to minister to us. This time can become a time of cleansing if we are willing to let go of our impatience.
The end result for the disciples was being able to receive the Holy Spirit. For us, waiting can be filled with with the Holy Spirit guiding our time of waiting and teaching us to grow both closer to Jesus and growing in faith. The disciples had learned to wait on Jesus and to be able to see the miracle that would come.
Are you willing to wait to see Jesus at work in in your life and to see what will happen in you and through you that will change the world around you simply through waiting.
