Living into the kingdom
When we look at Revelation, there are two things that are happening in regards to what we are looking forward to. One is obviously the new heaven and the new earth that God is going to bring about but the second is a call to live into the kingdom. In the Lord’s Prayer we pray “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Are we living in God’s will, are we being faithful and trusting to follow Jesus even when we don’t get what we want, life doesn’t go the way we planned, we aren’t healed when and how we want, we lose our earthly treasures, will we still have faith in the one who has given us new life.
Revelation is an invitation to stay faithful even through all the trouble we face as if we are living into the kingdom of God until we are moving into the kingdom that God will bring into place.
“No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.”
